In December 2023 NHS Highland ceased contracts with GP Practices to deliver various additional ‘enhanced’ services such as coil fitting, contraceptive implants, diabetes care, minor surgery and some others.

Since then, NHS Highland has not offered acceptable replacement contracts. As such, many Practices are unable to continue to provide these services and instead have to refer patients to NHS Highland. It is a source of regret and frustration to Practices that they are unable to continue to deliver these services locally.

It is hoped NHS Highland may in the near future choose to contract this work back to General Practice in a viable way.
